It all started with a lunch date over Thanksgiving weekend in 2019. Bethany was visiting Toronto from Montreal, where she was studying at McGill. Lucas was living and working in the city. After a few weeks of chatting, they finally met in person — and things clicked right away.

That first date quickly turned into a second the very next day: a movie (Joker — probably not the most romantic choice), followed by a walk through the aquarium.

The early days weren’t without their challenges, but they made it work — through weekend visits and many FaceTime calls. When Bethany moved back to Toronto due to the pandemic, life together truly began. They rode out the lockdowns side by side with takeout dinners, endless games of Catan, and Harry Potter marathons.

In 2022, they moved into their own place and soon after brought home Scout — their clever, stubborn Shiba who quickly established himself as the boss of the house.

Since then, they’ve shared unforgettable memories: countless concerts, wandering the streets of New York City, soaking up the magic of Disney World, exploring the beauty of Banff, and visiting Lucas’ hometown in Newfoundland.

After five years together, Lucas proposed during a layover in London, just before their big trip to Africa. It was the last place Bethany expected it — and the perfect start to the adventure of a lifetime. They spent two unforgettable weeks on safari in Kenya, soaking up the sun and spices of Zanzibar, and wrapped it all up in Amsterdam.

Now, they’re excited for the next chapter — and can’t wait to celebrate their wedding surrounded by the people who matter most.
